One more boat day

Our fall days didn't last long, as it was back in the 80's over the weekend. We spent Sunday out on the water with some friends, which made Filson happy. At this time of year, you never know if you're going to get another good beach day before the weather changes for good. Filson has about maxed out the weight capacity on his life jacket, but it sure got a lot of use this year!!

Weekend

Thursday night John returned from Raleigh & brought Filson a new Halloween book. He climbed right into Dad's lap to hear the story. Last night we met some friends for dinner & the 3 of us had our own little dance party when we got back to the house. The little guy was all wound up & imitating every move we made (scary thought if you've seen his parent's dance moves!!). Unfortunately the video I tried to take did not turn out, but you can tell from his big smile that he was enjoying himself. Today we hit the Spot Festival in Hampstead, just north of Wilmington. They have it once a year & serve up a meal of spot, slaw, fries & hush puppies along with live music, art vendors & lots of kids rides. Filson seemed to love being able to spend an afternoon people watching & running around in the grass. The last shot he is at the festival sitting on John D's lap next to his little friend, Ella.

Best Buds

Cooper is finally getting some much needed attention! In the last photo, he is not feasting on Filson's tiny hand as it may appear. The munchkin is actually giggling with excitement as he "feeds" him sticks he finds on the ground.

Fall Day

We had beautiful weather here today, so Filson was able to spend a lot of time in his car outside....his favorite place.

Congrats to Lyne & Ryan!

We met up with John's family on Friday for the Leeder wedding. The wedding was beautiful and the reception was a lot of fun. Filson loved spending a couple days playing with his big cousins. He is very lucky as they take great care of him! John & his twin sister, Jennifer, celebrated their birthdays yesterday, and the whole family was able to spend some time together in the morning and made a visit to Uncle Wayne & Aunt Sally's house before hitting the road for home. We had a really nice weekend & enjoyed being able to spend it with our family.

Virginia Pics

Virginia

We left Monday & spent the week in Virginia with John. We were all over the place, spending nights in Virginia Beach, Charlottesville, Winchester and finally to Fairfax for John's cousin's wedding. The week went very well & Filson was a good traveler. He & I would spend the days walking around exploring new places & meeting up with John at night. We spent 2 days in Charlottesville, home to Univ of Virginia, so he ran around the campus a bit & let off some energy. We also caught storytime at their B & N Thursday morning where they had a special visit from the Backyardigan's (a Nickelodeon show). Filson was very into it & sat still through the entire hour! He is really into bubbles right now, so was fascinated with a bar that had a machine on the roof with a constant flow of bubbles into the street.

Spaghetti Face

Last Sunday night we were preparing for our week on the road and our little guy was full of himself. He had spaghetti for the first time & his dad taught him all kinds of ways to play with his food. When I called him to go upstairs for bed, he appeared with an empty case of Miller Lite, which he proudly drug up the stairs & into his room. I'm sure our family would have made for a great Jeff Foxworthy "You may be a Redneck...." skit that night!

Playtime

Here are some shots of our week. The first 2 are from Wednesday when I took him to the weekly Farmer's Market at an old plantation near our house & then let him play on the playground next to it. I guess I was too busy trying to get a good shot to realize he was running around with a stick in his hand and climbing up the slide backwards! Next time I think I'll leave the camera at home & actually supervise my child! Thursday night he was fascinated with the motorcycles parked next to Hamburger Joe's. A guy we know made Filson's night when he let him sit on his Harley with him while he started it up. Lori, if Bob is ever busy & you need a riding partner, I think Filson's your man! The last ones are from Fit for Fun Thursday morning where we met up with a couple friends. As usual, Filson was happy to spend most of his time behind a steering wheel. We have had great weather this weekend & John & I have had our workout pushing Filson around and around the driveway in his little red car, his favorite past time.
We'll be off tomorrow for a week on the road in VA. We are looking forward to meeting up with all the family for John's cousin's wedding on Saturday. Filson can't wait to play with all his big cousins!

We're back

After a very nice visit to Iowa, we are now home and getting back into the swing of things. We spent almost 13 hrs travelling on Sunday, so were ready to rest up on Monday. Our playgroup was supposed to be at noon, but it was moved back a week because a lot of the kids were sick. It must be going around everywhere, because our little guy also became congested over the weekend & is still fighting it off. We did fit in an afternoon trip to the doctor yesterday to have his leg checked out. In the morning he would cry every time he took a step and by afternoon had given up walking all together. Luckily it turned out that it was most likely a pulled groin muscle & by tonight he was back to his normal stride. He is excited to have his Dad home all week. Before long we'll have to repack the bags as we'll be off on Monday for a week in VA. Never a dull moment!

Grandma Roe

Sadly, we lost our Grandma Roe on Saturday after being diagnosed with cancer only 4 weeks ago. Filson & I were able to spend 2 great weeks with her at her home in August and I will always remember that special time. We are so grateful that Filson was able to spend time with her in his first year. In January, he was even lucky enough to have a visit from her to our house in Wilmington. She was as sweet as they come and she will be greatly missed. We are headed to Iowa this afternoon and are looking forward to spending the week with our family.
